“Senior” Websites

Have one that’s ready for some eldercare?

If your website still contains code that was written four or more years ago - or less by some web designers, it qualifies as an “Internet senior citizen.” Unfortunately, it’s facing some of the same challenges many elderly citizens do: disappearing support.

HTML 5 is the next major revision of HTML ("hypertext Markup Language, or the language “spoken” by the world-wide web). While this revision will bring much-needed improvements, it will also eliminate many elements, —along with your company’s credibility and profitability if your website stops working.

There are more than a dozen elements that will disappear when HTML 5 is introduced. Rather than show you all of them, most of which will mean nothing to you, here are three that will most likely affect a website that is more than 3-4 years old:

• center
• font
• frame

For instance, a website using "font" tags will no longer display the correct font and font sizes. If you aren’t sure if your website will be affected, send us an email. We can take a look and let you know whether your website is headed for a crisis or needs a minor modification.
